The Long Parade komt naar Heist op 25/09
At Westtoer’s request, composer Ari Benjamin Meyers created a composition as part of the Beaufort art triennial that travels all summer along the Belgian coastline from seaside resort to seaside resort. There are 10 performances in the form of a procession in which local musicians from De Panne to Knokke-Heist pass the piece of music to each other. Die Verdammte Spielerei takes care of the coordination and forms the link between the composer and the performers.
Arriving at each location, the banner is officially handed over, after which the next group continues the musical trip a short time later. The experiment consists of the piece of music having a certain shape in the first group. But what does the work sound like upon arrival in Knokke-Heist? We’ll find out soon.
After all, on Saturday September 25, 2021, the Lange Parade will move from Zeebrugge to Heist. Around 4 pm the musicians arrive with the coastal tram at Heldenplein. Then they parade via the Graaf d’Ursellaan and Parkstraat to the Zeedijk and then return to the Heldenplein. There the company is welcomed by alderman Philippe Vlietinck. After hoisting the flag on the beach, the municipal council offers the musicians a reception in an establishment on the Zeedijk.
On Sunday, October 17, 2021, it will be the turn of the Koninklijke Harmonie Sint-Cecilia Heist to be the very last group to walk off the coastline to the Dutch border with the banner of the Lange Parade.
