The First Parade
This is an open-air exhibition with sculptures by Johan Creten, Eugène Dodeigne, George Grard, Thomas Lerooy, Mark Manders, Valérie Mannaerts, Nadia Naveau, Constant Permeke, Philip Van Isacker and Ossip Zadkine and can be viewed freely on Canadian Square until November 11 2021.
“De Eerste Parade” takes a subjective walk through the mainly Belgian sculpture from Constant Permeke to Thomas Lerooy, transforming the Canada Square near the Grand Casino Knokke into a very special outdoor experience.
“The works of art force a delay, just as we stop in front of a passing carnival procession, corso or fanfare. The intimate relationship that arises between spectator and image contrasts sharply with the idea of the exuberant transience of a parade” according to curator Joost Declercq.
-The exhibition is a unique collaboration between the Municipality of Knokke-Heist, curator Joost Declercq and Jef Declercq and Middelheim Antwerp.
